The Azure Window was a natural limestone arch at Dwejra on the west coast of Gozo, formed where the sea eroded a headland into a towering doorway of rock. For decades it was one of the most photographed sights in the Maltese islands.
After years of natural erosion, the arch collapsed into the sea during a storm in March 2017, leaving only the underwater remains of its columns. The surrounding area, including the Inland Sea and Dwejra Bay, remains a striking stretch of coast.
Divers now visit the fallen blocks of the arch, which have created a new underwater landscape, while the wider Dwejra area continues to draw walkers and photographers to one of Gozo's most dramatic coastlines.
